Dear Neighbors and Friends:
Thank you for reading this Annual Fund Appeal Letter - our 53rd since the founding of Morningside Retirement and Health Services (MRHS) in 1966. For those who contributed last year or in previous years, I cannot tell you just how much we appreciated your generosity and continued support. Last year our friends and neighbors donated over $60,000, a new high for us. If you did not give, we hope you will this year.
As many of you know, Morningside Gardens is classified as a NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community). The concept of "Aging in Place" has become the byword for such communities and MRHS makes this possible. MRHS is one of New York City's earliest non-profits supporting this concept in residential living.
MRHS has two core objectives: to help frail elderly and other older adults stay in their Morningside Gardens homes for as long as possible; and to build a strong sense of community.
Helping the elderly and older adults takes many forms. For those who need it, we offer professional social work services, nursing aid, memory support, psychological help and assist those who are the caregivers. We have held sessions on planning for retirement and future money management, including information on trusts and wills. In essence, we use all manner of tried and true methods, often utilizing evidence-based research, to achieve our goals.
Building our multi-cultural community occurs in numerous ways: We offer many classes from Zumba, yoga and meditation to Chinese dance, handcrafts and discussions on world events, books, and films. We have celebrations of special events, provide translation services, computer learning and offer numerous volunteer opportunities. Perhaps the single most important factor of our community involvement is the development of strong, meaningful, and close friendships.
Won't you be part of this extraordinary organization? Please come see our newly renovated offices, have a cup of tea or coffee. Use our state of art iMac computers; take books out of our library, read the NY Times and some of our many magazines.
And, please contribute what you feel you can afford so we may continue to strengthen MRHS and fulfill our goals. You might also consider including MRHS in your will.
If you want to discuss your contribution, write to me at Davidsonm_10027@yahoo.com. For comprehensive information about MRHS, please go to our website: www.mrhsny.org.
