Every Voice Choirs is a nonprofit organization that seeks to help people discover their voices and share them with pride. Its first choir, the Every Voice Youth Choir, grew out of the work of Dr. Nicole Becker and Dr. Jeanne Goffi-Fynn at Teachers College, Columbia University. With the goal of pioneering and researching a new, student-centered approach to choral training, Dr. Becker and Dr. Goffi-Fynn created the Teachers College Lab Chorus in 2008. Every Voice Choirs became an independent nonprofit in 2012 and currently offers 4 programs as an Ensemble-In-Residence in the Music Program at Teachers College. Dr. Becker is the Artistic Director and Executive Director, and Dr. Goffi-Fynn is the Voice Specialist. In addition to training young people ages 7-15 in singing and musicianship, the choirs serve as a training ground for graduate students in Music Education and Choral Pedagogy.
Grounded in the belief that everyone can benefit from vocal and musical training, Every Voice Choirs welcomes all interested young people into its core choirs, Every Voice Kids & Every Voice Youth Choir, without holding auditions. New programs for kids interested in more rigorous training in the 2014-2015 season include The Every Voice Concert Choir, which performed at Carnegie Hall in December, and the Vocal Workshops, led by Dr. GOffi-Fynn.
